Securefast team to climb Mount Snowdon in support of The Brain Tumour Charity UK - On 19th April 2019, sixteen members of staff at Securefast are setting off to climb Mount Snowdon, in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity UK. Mount Snowdon with an elevation of 1085m (3560ft) above sea level is the tallest mountain in Wales and the team will be taking the 9 mile (14.5km) Llanberis path to the top. The path is the longest and most gradual of the six main paths to the summit of Snowdon, and offers fantastic views of Cwm Brwynog, Llanberis and over the Menai straights towards Anglesey. Director Keith Clare-Brown who has organised the trip said ‘all of the staff here at Securefast were touched by the passing of my son Shaun from this horrific disease. Securefast Invests In People For The Future - More than 50 students have started a new Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Wolverhampton which aims to boost the career credentials of aspiring business leaders. The Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship (SLMDA) is designed for senior managers with responsibility for the strategic leadership and direction of their organisation or department. The first cohort of 55 students attended an induction day at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park on Monday, 24 September 2018 to meet lecturers and mentors and hear more about the two-year course. The Degree Apprenticeship is aimed at those working in the private, public and third sectors and for companies of any size. Among the new students was Russell Gooch, Finance Director at Securefast PLC. He said: “I decided to do the Senior Leaders Master’s Degree Apprenticeship because I felt there was a skills gap in my knowledge. This is my first position as a Director and I thought it would help to improve my skills. “A Degree Apprenticeship appealed to me as I work for a SME so the Government pay a high proportion of the fees. Optimus GSM Door Entry - The Optimus is the latest range of GSM intercom system from Securefast designed to work with gates, barriers and door entrances. Utilising the GSM network greatly reduces any cabling between the entrance and the property and calls can be received on a standard landline or mobile phone. A SIM card is pre-installed allowing numbers relating to the call buttons to be programmed. Your home or mobile phone number is added to the auto-dial memory so that when a visitor presses the number on the intercom, a call is made to your phone. Answering your phone allows you to communicate with the visitor and allows them in the property by pressing your “#” key on your phone. If you are out, the unit can divert the call to a mobile or your work phone so that you are able to communicate with your visitor. The unit has back light keys for easy recognition in poor lighting, allows three telephone numbers to be stored per call button, available with up to four call buttons and with or without a keypad. Call Point Fire Regulations - False alarms are a real problem and earlier this year, a government report highlighted the fact that 44% of fire and rescue callouts turn out to be false alarms, which is a cost to businesses, creates a disruption, is annoying to members of the public, is a cost on time and resources to the fire and rescue service. The code of practice BS 5839 Part 1 Fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings now recommends in section 11.2 and 20.2b that a protective cover is fitted to all type A manual call points. (MCP) Securefast can now offer two options in order to meet the recommendations; either a Manual Call Point which comes complete with a cover or a cover sold separately which can be fitted over an existing MCP. MCP’s fitted with a cover are specifically designed with a plastic hinged cover which helps to stop accidental activations of the MCP unit whilst still allowing activation in a real fire situation. Another method is the STI cover, which are clear covers for wall mounted manual call points that provide a protective barrier against misuse, damage or vandalism. Manual activation devices such as fire alarm MCP’s and door release access control points are essential for both systems and need to be used in the event of an emergency. The protective covers are manufactured using durable material with a hinged lid, designed to provide protection whilst ensuring the call point remains visible and accessible at all times. These STI stoppers are fully enclosed over the MCP and available as waterproof versions for use outdoors, with or without a sounder and suitable for flush or surface mounted devices. The covers can be retrofitted over existing equipment and provides a choice of red or green finish depending on the type of application, i.e fire alarm (Red) or access control system (Green). Securefast Raise Money for Breast Cancer Now - On Friday 20th October 2017 Securefast supported “Breast Cancer Now” raising funds for research which is focused on four key areas – risk and prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatment and secondary breast cancer. The staff at Cannock dressed in pink for the day, baked cakes and made donations which raised £1105.00. The organisation believes that by 2050 anyone with breast cancer will live. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the UK. One in eight women in the UK will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime with at least four out of five breast cancers occurring in women over the age of 50. Breast cancer in men is rare, but around 350 men are diagnosed with the disease each year in the UK compared with over 50,000 women, with around 80 men dying from breast cancer every year in the UK. More women than ever are surviving breast cancer thanks to better awareness, better screening and better treatments. Around five out of six women diagnosed in the UK today will be alive in five years’ time, compared to three out of six women 40 years ago. Securefast supports 12 Hour Throw-A-Thon for local charity - Kevin O’Reilly, Operations Director and a long standing coach and member of Wolverhampton Judo Club this year decided to raise money for a local charity. On the 10th June 2017 members of Wolverhampton Judo Club with support from Codsall and the University of Wolverhampton clubs attempted a jaw dropping challenge to achieve as many throws as possible over a timed twelve hour period, all in aid the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity, which supports the Children’s Ward and Cancer Support Unit at the City’s New Cross Hospital. The grueling event involved enthusiastic members continually throwing their colleagues non-stop for 12 hours, from 10am through to 10pm. Supporting this unique event Securefast donated hot drinks, provided cups and other item to ensure the day was a success, together with a donation to the funds. Other local companies joined in, with Sainsbury’s donating water and mars bars and the Vine Inn Wednesfield providing cobs with a number of parents donated other items such as donuts, sweets, energy drinks and crisps. Members then made contributions for these items which in itself generated over £150.00 towards the funds being raised. With a number of participants assisting for short periods, the majority of club member achieved the full 12 hours, which resulted in many of them feeling completely drained after 4 to 6 hours. However with their determination and drive in wanting to complete the full 12 hours, they worked through a tough time to find a second lease of life. In fact during the final three hours, when the members could see the finish line approaching, they somehow managed to draw on extra reserves to appear even stronger and throw even quicker. At precisely 10pm the events adjudicator confirmed that the members had achieved a monumental and, potentially world beating, 14,588 throws, which averaged at 1200 throws an hour or 20 throws a minute. Overwhelmed by the final figure, Kevin praised the unflinching contribution by the members in completing the full twelve hours and also by the contributions that kept coming in on the ‘Just Giving’ page during the day. Kevin rounded off the memorable day by commenting “The event has been such a success in a number of ways, not only that the members shown when needed they can go that extra mile when they are tired and determined, the amount of funds generated, publicity for the club, building relationships with Judoka from the participating clubs and the camaraderie between players, parents and members of the community” With an ambitious target of £5000 to reach Members will now be collecting their sponsorship money in order for the donations to be presented to the hospital at the end of the month. Rishi Harbias Awarded GAI Diploma - Congratulations to Rishi Harbias our technical engineer, on completing his 3rd year of the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) Diploma, in June this year. Rishi joined Securefast as an apprentice six years ago and works closely with the development team, marketing and customer services. Rishi received his certificate from Maria Powell, president of the GAI and the event’s keynote speaker, Sir Ranulph Fiennes Bt OBE on Wednesday 2nd November, at the Lancaster Hotel in London. Along with just short of 400 guests, the Guild celebrated the hardware professionals who have achieved a GAI qualification this year. Of the 90 learners who attained the Certificate in Architectural Hardware and the 42 students who completed the full GAI Diploma, six also received awards at the prestigious ceremony. Students based outside of the UK accounted for 47% of the total learners on the education programme for 2015/16 and this year’s exams were taken in 27 countries around the world. This year saw particularly high numbers of learners in South Africa, Hong Kong, Dubai and other GCC countries.

Lockex 2016 - Over the 16th to 18th September Securefast exhibited at the first Lockex Exhibition held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. During the weekend the company also presented two CPD presentation for the visitors which included the latest standard EN13637 Electrically Controlled Exit Systems and Access Control Security Levels and Associated Standards. Visited who attended such as Architectural Ironmongers, Architects and Locksmiths gain CPD points towards their qualifications. Securefast comes out on top - Stag Marketing recently conducted an independent survey with Securefast customer on behalf of the company to evaluate the company’s high level of service and product quality. The questionnaire also asked specific questions regarding the use of the company e-commerce, about the website, e-news and preferred preferences on hard copy or electronic literature. The survey covered an array of customers including Architectural Ironmongers, Locksmiths, Electrical and Wholesaler Distributors and OEM accounts with a positive response level of almost 80% with others either on holiday or not available. When considering the overall rating of the company the majority scored either a 9 or a 10 out of 10 taking into consideration the technical support given, delivery of goods on time, quality and range of products in stock. Ninty- one percent of customers rated the products as being typical market price and the choice of the range available was satisfactory. There was no negative feedback to prices being too expensive or the range being too complicated. One of the key criteria for this research was to gain an understanding of people’s attitudes towards E-commerce. In general terms, the majority of large clients and most of the electronic company buyers use E-commerce regular, but smaller business did not appear to be familiar with E-commerce. Over half of all people asked said that if they were not already using it they would certainly be interested in creating an account. Although many said they still prefer the traditional methods of placing orders therefore it was important for Securefast to keep these channels open as well as using E-commerce. The survey identified that 53% of customers like to have hard copies and electronic copies of data sheets and literature with 26% still wanting hard copies only and not using electronic versions. Many of the customers surveyed use the Securefast website for downloading literature, data sheets and certification / DOP’s, like a hard copy for backup. In summary, overall Securefast continues to successfully satisfy its customer’s requirements and will use the survey to continue to ensure that their customers received the best service possible. Staff Changes at Securefast - Michelle Hill who has been with Securefast for over 16 years with 11 of those years in the sales department has decided that she wanted to learn new skills and try a different role to widen her expertise within the company. As a vacancy became available in the financial area, Michelle is now the credit controller for the business and to support her role attends college each week to gain a qualification in AAT. To continue to offer support in the sales department Hanna Rose has joined the company to support the sales and marketing team. Hanna has over 11 years’ experience in the industry, so already knows many of the customers and bring with her knowledge of export sales, which will help as Securefast now has an office in the UAE covering the Middle East area. To expand Hannah’s knowledge she is currently studying an online course for a Business Studies Diploma, which includes modules such as; production & distribution and the principles of Marketing. Hanna was looking for a new challenge and wanted to expend her knowledge on hardware in our industry and therefore the timing was just right for Hanna to join Securefast which is expanding its operations around the world and developing many new products. Having previously worked for Kevin O’Reilly, the Operations Director at a previous company, Hannah had no hesitation about working with Kevin again. Securefast have also recently employed Josh Peach as an apprentice in the accounts department who is currently also studying AAT level 2 at Wolverhampton collage. Josh joined the company in August straight from secondary school and will hope to strengthen the accounts department for the future development of the business. Further changes at head office will see Lucinda Goodman going on maternity leave at the end of October and to cover for her position as marketing assistant while she is away, Securefast have enrolled with Wolverhampton University and employed Tom Grainger a post -graduate in marketing to cover the position. The marketing role did start off as a part time role a few years ago, but has now became a full time position, which is why Securefast needed to have support in this area. Gary Whitehouse Wins BBC “The Box” - The BBC programme The Box, a cooking contest hosted by James Martin invited Gary Whitehouse our Midlands’ Sales Agent to feature in an episode which was shown on Monday June 22nd. Gary was given a box of ingredients selected by Celebrity Chef Monica Galetti who is the senior sous-chef at Le Gavroche in London. The contestants each had just 50 minutes to prepare a meal using some or all of the ingredients in the box. Gary made a Chocolate Fondant with Dulce de Leche and Walnut Praline. Having won the first round, Gary then had to choose a box from Pudding, Global or Basic and chose the Basic Box. The winning dish served by Gary consisted of a chicken stir fry which both Monica and James thoroughly enjoyed. Slidelock hits the Market! - To meet the needs of the ever growing lock industry Securefast introduce a Slidelock for sliding doors. Fire Testing and Access Control - Kevin O’Reilly, Operations Director for Securefast plc, one of the UK’s leading access control manufacturers and distributors, offers an insight to specifiers of access control systems located within a fire rated installation. A number of access control products are being used on fire doors within buildings without having been fire rated for use in these types of doors. The main problem is that contractors, joiners and many suppliers within the architectural ironmongery industry are aware that products used on fire doors such as locks must carry the CE mark, however main electrical distributors and access control manufacturers are not aware of the regulations. Many suppliers / manufacturers of access control products such as standalone or network systems used on doors with a lock case may show a CE mark, but this has been applied by the manufacturer having completed an EMC test and not a fire test. Also the regulations allow EMC testing to be carried out by the individual company or a 3rd party test house. Many companies will self-certification of the EMC which requires the following:- - Check for radiation - Check for sensitivity to electro statics - Blast with radiation to see if this effects the operation - Pass the Low Voltage Directive - Check that a power surge will not stop the product from functioning - Create a Technical Construction file The Technical Construction file will be compiled by the manufacturer and be available if the product is under investigation by Trading Standards etc. to show that testing has been carried out and records held. Due to costs many access control manufacturers will follow the route to self-certification and not consider fire testing. The fire test is very important as the construction of the product may contain low melting components and additional holes in the door may be required for the wiring and connections which can affect the integrity of the door. It is important that specifiers, suppliers and installers check documentation with the main distributor / manufacturer to ensure access control products to be used on fire doors have been tested. It is also important that the door specified and used on a site with the access control products must also be compatible with the fire test evidence. Over the years door manufacturers have competed to reduce the cost of doors due to market demand therefore a door manufactured to have a surface mounted product fixed to it may not be good enough to have a mortice lock fitted as it may fail a fire test. Likewise a door fire tested with a mortice lock fitted may not be the correct specification to accept a bored hole through the door to allow for wiring from the lock to the concealed door loop on the door frame. The CE mark applied to the package covers the fire test to EN1634-1, EMC testing and EN12209 to give the lock a performance standard.

Securefast Sales Team takes the Off-Road Challenge - Securefast’s sale team held their sales conference at the Land Rover Experience, Rockingham over two days where MD Duncan Crawley arranged a team building challenge including off-road vehicles such as the Range Rover Sports, Kubota ATV’s, blind driving and archery. The Great Park is a beautiful location within the Welland Valley and Rockingham Castle has some of the best off-road facilities available together with modern well-equipped vehicles. The instructors offered a wealth of experience with their own unique brand of entertainment. Points were awarded for each activity and Duncan’s team including Tony Ducker and Gary Whitehouse proved they were the best with an impressive point score. Ian Scott announces retirement from Securefast - After deciding to retire Ian will bring a close to a remarkable Ironmongery career of over 15 years continuous service with Securefast. Ian Scott has decided to hang up the keys and take long deserved retirement on the 31st March. Having spent 46 years in the Industry starting in 1969 with 3 years at King & Co in Hull, Ian Scott joined the Architectural Ironmongery Department, progressing to Contracts Manager, after which he was invited to join Mateer & Nelson Ltd also in Hull to help build their Architectural Division, progressing to Sales Director and Share Holder. Duncan approached Ian in 2000 asking if he would be interested in joining him in an adventure to build Security Engineering now renamed and rebranded as Securefast into a major player in the Industry. Ian’s knowledge of mechanical locking mechanisms and the needs of Architects and Specifiers helped introduce a number of new ranges such as the Scandinavian style locks, Cylinders, Special Need products and also helping extending the original Mortice lock ranges under the Securefast brand. Ian Scott, Sales Director of Securefast quoted “It is now time for me to take it easier (some say I have been doing that for a long time) and retire, I am looking forward to this although the list of jobs which Judy my wife is formulating seems to be getting longer and longer, luckily most of the list is what I like doing, Gardening and DIY and if she will give me time off I might look at taking up Photography again and going to the gym.” Ian will be missed by both Customers and Colleagues for his extensive knowledge and banter and the company wish Ian a long and healthy retirement.

Securefast Biometrics on ITV News - Product: Biometric Reader The Securefast Entra Biometric system has been installed by TAG on a number of sites, due to its level of security and convenience to the user. Securefast unveils ENTRA at Intersec - With a reputation for taking the lead in new innovations, Securefast will beintroducing the new ENTRA Access Control system at the Intersec exibition in Dubai on 19 – 21 January 2014, which is being promoted as simply the most versatile access control product on the market. Securefast offers work experience to local schools - The current climate for young students either seeking a university place or employment has become very competitive, with less places available at university and fewer company opportunities. Securefast is working with a local school, Walton High School, to offer work experience to a number of sixth formers in the field of finance and administration to give them some voluntary work experience to add to their CV’s which can differentiate between other candidates with no experience. It also gives them an idea of potential careers which may interest them in the future. The emphasis of this work experience is to also try to make the experience more challenging than the average experience, which may revolve around simple administration tasks or getting the student involved in project work. Chris Davis, the Finance Controller, is supervising the students and believes, Securefast may also benefit from a young and enthusiastic individual assisting with a variety of tasks set over the week. If the scheme proves a success over the course of the summer, it is hoped that the idea can be extended to other local schools and potentially at other times of the year and other age groups.

Karen Campbell joins Securefast Group - Karen Campbell has joined the Securefast Group as Business Development Manager working closely with the sales team to develop new markets and supply routes for the group. Additional Mechanical Digital locks for Panic Hardware Range - Securefast have added additional Mechanical Digital Locks to operate with the Traditional Style and Touch Bar range of Panic & Emergency Exit Hardware, as an alternative to the key operated Outside Access Devices. The Digital Locks offer keyless entry, have been mechanically tested with the Securefast Panic and Emergency Latches to EN1125 / 179:2008, fire rated for use on fire doors and salt spray tested to 240 hours, enabling them to be used on external doors. All the Digital Locks use the ‘Easy Code Change’ so that the code can be easily changed using a flat screwdriver on the back of the mechanism outside unit. Each of the Mechanical Digital Locks are supplied with an appropriate spindle to connect to the inside panic hardware device, have a non-sequential code and a neoprene seal for the outside unit. The range of digital locks available have a number of features and benefits including options with a Free Passage Mode, a stylist lever handle or knob on the outside unit and either 10, 11 or 13 digital combination buttons. Securefast Digital Lock range passes Fire Test - Securefast have tested their range of SBL Mechanical Digital Locks with Warrington Fire and successfully achieved both 30 and 60 minute duration for timber doors. The range of easy-code and conventional tumbler code change locks were tested, including the new SBL330.SL and SBL365 lever handle versions as well as the standard knob operated units. Sandra Sumner takes retirement after 24 years - After 24 years of looking after customers of ‘Tate’ fire products from Securefast Plc, and the original company Tate Fire and Security, Sandra Sumner has decided to relax and take a well-earned rest. Sandra will retire on 27th September 2012 after having worked both full-time and part-time over the last few years to spend more time doing leisurely activities which she enjoys such as gardening, cooking and reading as well as general socialising with her friends. Sandra joined Tate Fire & Security in October 1988 when it was previously owned by Lyle and Judith Mallen on a part time basis working 9-1pm five days a week. Sandra’s job role involved inputting customer details on to the new computer data base and later accepted a full-time role as her children started to get older. Over the years, Sandra has seen the company grow and change ownership a number of times, but has always enjoyed her position and the colleagues she has worked with. When Securefast took over in 2005 Sandra saw the business go from strength to strength and progressed to become a sales administrator for our South West region. Having always enjoyed internal telesales and order processing Sandra has built up many good customer relationships over the years, believing that going the extra mile with customers, having a positive attitude and a great sense of humour has helped increase sales and makes Sandra a well-respected and helpful individual in our industry. Colleagues, particular Tony and Debbie who have worked with Sandra for many years will be sad to see her leave as not only has she been a great person to work with but also a very dear friend. All of the Securefast team and many customers wish Sandra all the best for the future in her retirement.
Adam joins Sale & Technical Support Team - Adam Wilkinson has joined Securefast plc to strengthen the tele-sales and technical support team at Southport. Adam brings a wealth of experience having previously worked for Tate Colson and more recently with Progeny and Norward Systems in technical support and as a technical site engineer. Adam will be looking after our Southwest customers, following the retirement of Sandra Sumner at our Cheddar office as well as supporting our technical team. At 31 years of age Adam is qualified in the FIA Design of Fire Alarm Systems Level 1, 2 and 3 and is familiar with many systems distributed by Securefast plc such as FIKE and GLT. Having spent some time with an access control manufacture Adam is in an ideal position to give support and advice on our Entra Access Control System which includes controllers, software packages, IRIS and Facial Recognition, Fingerprint Readers, Card Readers and Keypads.

3-Point Panic Bolt added to range - The Securefast traditional style range of Panic and Emergency Exit Hardware has been increased at the request of customers to include the new SED912 3-Point Panic Bolt, offering increased security by adding a centre latch bolt to the top and bottom shoot bolts. The new Panic Bolt is ideal for single door applications, has been certified to EN1125:2008, CE Marked for safety and fire rated for use on timber and steel doors. The SED912 has been salt spray tested to 240 hours, making it ideal for humid environments and can be operated from the outside by the Securefast Outside Access Devices either by Lever (SED990) or Knob (SED900). The traditional square shoot bolts also allow ± 5mm of adjustment, if the door moves over time or if the bolts have not been cut to the correct length when installing. The universal latch keep can also be morticed into the frame or surface mounted, thus reducing the fitting time, making the product idea for steel door frames. To complement the product, packers are available to off-set the 3-Point Panic Bolt off the door when using steel frames to prevent the bolts from interfering with the inside section. The new modern style panic bolt is easy to fit and is universal for left and right hand doors. New 800 lbs Electro-Magnets from Deedlock - The brand leading range of Deedlock Electro-Magnetic Locks has been further enhanced with the introduction of the new Midi range which delivers over 800 lbs holding force with monitored or unmonitored options. The single electro-magnets are dual voltage with 12 or 24v selectable on site. To complement the magnetic locks an L Bracket for outward opening doors and Z & L Brackets for inward opening doors are also available. Like all the Deedlock range of face to face magnets, safety bolts are fitted to prevent the magnet from being detached from the bracket when it is in the locked position. New Digital Locks - Securefast are one of the largest suppliers of Mechanical Digital Locks in the UK have now extended the range to include a number of new options. The ‘Easy Code’ range offers the contractor, joiner or end user the facility to change the combination easily by pushing and rotating the buttons on the back of the outside unit to activate or deactivate a digital. We have now introduced the ‘Easy Code Plus’ which is an advanced development in the mechanism preventing the professional villain from feeling which buttons are active. The easy code plus feature has been launched on the new SBL330.SL Digital Lock with Lever and SBL330.S Digital Lock with Knob. The units are 41mm wide and 142mm high offering a compact unit with eleven code buttons and over 2000 different non-sequential codes. The new SBL380.S offers an Easy Code Digital Mechanical Lock on both sides of the door, so that restricted access from one area to another is available. The combinations on each unit can be set the same or with different codes, depending on the clients requirements. With thirteen code buttons each unit can offer over 5700 different non-sequential codes. The units are robust and offer a convenient means of providing security for low to medium traffic areas such as partition doors and doors between buildings. The SBL340.S is the new Mechanical Digital Lock with a Rim Deadbolt on the inside with a 20mm bolt throw. The Digital Lock is ideally used in situations where the door will be unlocked during the day and left open for free passage. The deadbolt can be thrown from the inside or outside and therefore can also be used in low to medium traffic areas such as workshops, storage, plant and offices. Finally Securefast can now offer the SBL365 range of Mechanical Digital Locks to function with either a heavy duty tubular latch, sash lock or mortice night latch. In order to work within the specialised field of fire detection design, the course provided immeasurable insight into understanding the standards and principles behind fire detection equipment. A number of employees in the technical department at Southport have already completed this course, which has already had a significant impact in enabling the company to provide invaluable support and advice to our valued customers. The course provided an understanding of the basic principles of BS 5839-1, which helps staff to speak with authority on all issues arising in this technical field of the industry. Whether dealing with clients’ questions or when providing details of the equipment that our business provides the course proved to be invaluable. Keith Clare-Brown joins Securefast Group - Keith Clare-Brown has joined the Securefast Group as Sales Director for Tate Solutions. A new company in the organisation, offering comprehensive installation and commission service to our Architectural Ironmongery and Electrical Wholesaler customers, designed to provide the very latest technology in electrical control systems, including automatic doors, personnel and vehicle access, ventilation control, fire alarm and access control systems. Keith has a wealth of experience dealing with sub-contractors, architects and clients in the UK, and will act as Project Manager to ensure the smooth running of projects from the start to the finish, ensuring that correct products are chosen to suit the client’s requirements. Having spent 23 years in the Royal Horse Artillery and being promoted through the ranks to Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), Keith left the army in 1993 to become Assistant Business Development Manager for Relcross, selling stainless steel washroom equipment and security products imported from the USA. In 2000 Keith joined Control For Doors Ltd as UK Sales Manager, selling high quality security solutions and automatic door equipment and later moved to Saturn Architectural. Securefast attend 2012 GAI Conference - Operations Director, Kevin O’Reilly and Sales Office Manager Kellie Sandys represented Securefast plc at the GAI’s AGM and Conference. The conference took place at the Forest of Arden Hotel in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside and consisted of a hectic programme of business and leisure activities as well as the formal proceedings of the AGM. With many AI’s and manufacturers attending it created the ideal opportunity to networking with other members of the industry. The GAI's AGM formed the first part of proceedings. Phil Newson of Allgood was re-elected for a second year as President with John Jefferies of Laidlaw Interiors Group as Vice President and David Stacey of Dorma UK as Treasurer. Reports were given at the AGM by the President Phil Newson, Technical Committee Chairman Paul Duggan, Shafiq Sharif, Chair of the Marketing Committee, Andy Fitzgerald, Chair of the Education Committee and the IAI National Chairman Andy Matthews. After the business of the AGM, Simon Storer, Communications and External Affairs Director at the Construction Products Association (CPA) outlined the role of his organisation and the ways in which GAI members can access its wealth of economic and political information and resources. The second speaker was Paul Wilkinson a social media specialist who urged the GAI delegates to get up to date with social media channels and how we should use them to promote and build businesses. After the AGM the social networking took place with activities including Laser Shooting, a game of jenga and cocktail making. The Securefast team did well in a number of activities, but it was Kevin in the cocktail event who took the first prize for accurately being able to measure a set amount, by pouring a liquid straight from the bottle into a container. Josh on way to recovery - Back in October 2011 Kevin O'Reilly, colleagues at Securefast and associated friends in the industry raised £1500 towards the cost of Joshua Dudley’s rehabilitation following a horrific car accident earlier last year, which left nine-year old Joshua with life-threatening injuries. Following the accident, Joshua was air lifted to Birmingham’s Children Hospital where he was stabilised on a life support machine. Joshua’s fight for life hung in the balance for eight days and he remained in a coma for the following seventy-three days. Following his transfer to the Rehabilitation Centre for paediatric acquired brain injuries ‘The Children’s Trust’ based in Tadworth, Surrey, Josh needed financial support to continue his treatment as the local Primary Care Trust, near where he lives in Walsall, threatened to withdraw funding. Many family, friends and people who heard about Josh’s fate railed around to raise money to pay for his treatment. With the continued treatment and dedicated staff at Tadworth, Josh is now back at home, walking unaided and looking forward to starting back to school. Josh will initially attend a special school for his needs, but is hoping to be back with his friends at his local school very soon.

Director gains another Dan Grade - Kevin O Reilly the Operations Director at Securefast, was taken seriously ill last year when he was rushed into hospital with internal bleeding and diagnosed Ulcers as a result from Barrett's Oesophagus, but as a competitive person, who for over 40 years has been involved in the sport of Judo, decided that he would not sit on his Loral’s but set himself a target to train and gain his 4th Dan, within 12 months of him being taken ill. Kevin successfully achieved this in February, following him also becoming the British Kata Silver medallist with his assistant Coach, last November in Kendal. At 51 years of age, Kevin has always kept himself relatively fit but finds little time to train due to his commitment to coaching at Wolverhampton Judo Club, where he has been a member since 1972 and been a Senior Coach and Director of the Club for almost 20 years. Kevin coaches twice a week to both children and adults from 5 to 60 years old, both male and female and also to a number of students that have mental or physical disabilities. Kevin has had students that have limited sight and even total blind.

New APX-16 Waterproof IP68 Rated Keypad - The APX-16 is a new generation multiple input keypad offering a standard 4-8 digit pin code with the option to include a proximity reader for up to 1200 users with the AXP-16/PROX. The range supports pin only, card only or a combination of pin and card operation with two relay out-puts, lock and alarm. The keypad accepts a 125KHZ EM proximity card and uses two zones. Zone 1 offers up to 1100 Pin & Card holders and zone 2 allows up to 100 Pin & Card holders. The APX-16 design has a lock output of up to 2 amps and an alarm output of 20 amps, both relays are normally open and closed settable. The keypads accept both 12-24v ac and dc power inputs. Industry rallies to the Joshua Appeal - As a result of a horrific car accident earlier this year, nine-year old Joshua Dudley sustained life-threatening injuries and was assumed dead at the scene of the crash. However, thanks to the rapid response of the paramedics and the air ambulance, Joshua was air lifted to Birmingham’s Children Hospital where he was stabilised on a life support machine. Joshua’s fight for life hung in the balance for eight days and he remained in a coma for the following seventy-three days. Waking from his coma Joshua was diagnosed with multiple and severe mental and physical disabilities. His lifeline to regaining a normal life came from the UK’s leading rehabilitation centre for paediatric acquired brain injuries ‘The Children’s Trust’ based in Tadworth, Surrey. Here he was assessed and approved for funding, albeit that the consultants warned of the likelihood of little or no progress in the first year of treatment. Despite this Joshua has defied all odds and is making phenomenal progress on his road back to the life of an active and independent boy. Despite the positive progress at Tadworth, Joshua still needs a further three months specialist treatment to regain many of his basic functions; unfortunately the family’s local Primary Care Trust in Walsall, West Midlands has withdrawn the possibility of any further funding, denying Joshua the chance of regaining a relatively normal life. When the plight of a critically injured boy, whose rehabilitation had been threatened by a lack of local NHS funding, reached the ears of Kevin O’Reilly, Operations Director at Securefast plc, he immediately pledged support in helping to raise the much needed money to continue the treatment. Kevin, who at the age of seven had himself been involved in a road accident, spearheaded the campaign to raise donations from friends and business colleagues in the architectural hardware industry. As Kevin commented “Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of friends at Wolverhampton Judo Club, colleagues at Securefast and local companies such as Aspray 24, Gary Whitehouse Agency, Cooke Brothers, J. Banks, Exova, Strand Hardware, Butler Patternmakers, Stag Marketing and Russell James Design we are delighted to be in a position to send an initial cheque for £1500 to the Joshua Dudley Appeal, with other companies sending cheques direct to the appeal. We were pleased to play a small part in helping Joshua and we send him our sincere best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery”. Joshua is seen collecting the cheque with his father John, from Kevin at Wolverhampton Judo Club during the club annual competition for the younger members. Joshua also received a Gold medal as a winner, for his bravery and effort in his fight for life.
Securefast plc Join FIA - Securefast plc have joined the Fire Industry Association, or the FIA as it is more commonly known, which is a not-for-profit trade association with the aim of promoting the professional status of the UK fire safety industry. The FIA was formed from the merger between two longstanding and well-respected trade associations, FETA (Fire Extinguishing Trade Association) and BFPSA (British Fire Protection Systems Association). The two associations had long shared a common interest in the promotion of the professional status of the UK fire industry and Securefast feel that by joining the trade association will help promote and strengthen the companies’ position in the market for fire products. Being part of the FIA will enable the company to be involved with an association that promote professional standards in the fire industry through close liaison and lobbying with Government and official bodies as well as other key organisations in the industry. Securefast will benefit from the technical knowledge and advice given by the FIA regarding fire safety in the UK. It is envisaged that employees will also benefit from the training courses to members given on all the latest technical and legislative topics to affect those working with fire safety. Securefast believe that Trade associations have a crucial role to play in promoting best practice, helping companies become more competitive and formulating effective public policy and delivery. The trade associations have tremendous potential to act as a co-ordinated voice of business when talking to Government, and great value in terms of quickly disseminating messages about Government policy to members.
NVQ for Warehouse Staff - Securefast recognise the importance of training staff and ensuring that they are confident in their roles within the business. The company decided to consider the popular NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) as they are carried out during the working hours with little disruption to the working day and because they demonstrate an individual's true skill. Three members of staff from the Warehouse at Securefast, Paul Bird, Darren Hopkins and Paul Goodwin have completed an EAL Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Warehousing and Storage. They have been involved with the City of Wolverhampton College for 3 months completing a number of tasks to show their competence. New processes were introduced in the warehouse area back in January 2011, which the staff have taken on board and have worked to, the NVQ scheme also allowed them to consider factors which sometimes are taken for granted, such as safe working practices, health and safety issues and considered methods to improve efficiency within the warehouse. The NVQ tested their knowledge and skills from receiving orders in the warehouse, pick and packaging the goods to completing the process of dispatching to the customers. They also showed their awareness of using safety equipment and protection in carrying out their roles such as safe handling and storage of goods plus demonstrating the safety checks on Fork Lift trucks and other equipment. The three members of staff are shown with their certificates, following a presentation by the Managing Director, Duncan Crawley.
Securefast Customer Quality Report - Results from a recently commissioned independent customer quality survey confirm Securefast plc as one of the industries best performers in terms of customer service and satisfaction, by Stag Marketing, Sales & Marketing Consultants With such a diverse portfolio of products encompassing Fire, Safety and Security, distributed to customers across a range of industry sectors, the Securefast group of companies has developed an enviable reputation for high quality products and a first class customer service. Not a business to rest on its laurels, in 2010 the Securefast directors commissioned the first in a series of independent customer and supplier surveys designed to form an integral part in the group’s commitment to deliver a continuous programme of quality assessments in order to meet and hopefully exceed customer expectations for both service and satisfaction. The initial survey was carried out in June 2010 by independent sales and marketing consultants Stag Marketing. The brief was to conduct an in depth, on-line, quality survey based on a randomly selected choice of companies, across a broad spectrum of current accounts, ranging from small businesses through to the medium and larger clients, obtained from either the Securefast, Tate or Colson databases. The questions posed were designed to clearly reveal the relevant strengths and weaknesses in all key aspects of the company’s operations. Specific areas included, head office and overall customer services, product range and pricing, tele-sales services, technical advice and support, delivery performance and web site feedback. With an excellent customer response level of 90%, the consultants have confirmed that, in their opinion, they consider that the survey findings can reliably viewed as both a viable and accurate measure of the company’s performance. Key extracts of the consultants report indicate that the Securefast group as a whole scored highly, particularly for the company’s exceptional level of customer care and willingness to meet customer needs wherever possible. Questions relating to the group’s range of product and prices received a generally favourable response with both the overall quality of its products and the competitive pricing structure across all product groups. Typical quotes of ‘competitive’ and ‘good value for money products’ being terms noted from a number of respondents. Sharing equally high billing in the survey was the reply to questions based on the level of service received when customers had needed to contact either the head office or the tele-sales operations. The overwhelming response was both positive and complementary, with overall scores ranging from very good to excellent. The survey response also indicated that one of the key indicators to the success of the company’s front line customer services is the team’s genuine rapport with customers and in-depth product knowledge. With a company at the forefront in new technological advances in fire, safety and security products, the group’s technical services also came under the spotlight in the survey. It should be noted however that in general terms the survey threw up very few quality issues that required any specific technical assistance. Of the small number of respondents who reported contacting the company for additional product information or requiring technical support, the survey concluded that help and assistance was readily available from either the sales representatives or where necessary, the technical department. At the point in time of the survey there where no outstanding technical issues or negative comments of a technical nature thrown up by the report. From a customer’s prospective, it is a well-known fact that the reputation of many companies will stand or fall by the efficiency of their delivery service. In the case of Securefast, the majority of the customer’s surveyed reported overall satisfaction with the company’s delivery service, with deliveries correct and on time. There were only two reports where incorrect goods had been delivered, however in each case the respondents qualified their comments by stating that these where isolated occurrences. The survey concluded with a customer appraisal of the group web site. Whilst a surprising number of customers reported that they still preferred hard copy literature, the majority of customers confirmed that they mainly used the Securefast web site to download technical data and for specific product searches. The survey also revealed that in view of the growing complexity related to many new projects, customers now require far greater technical information and detailed product applications, which is soon to be available on the company website.

Securefast now stock the Taylor AT3558 Electric Lock - Securefast Tate Colson has become the major distributor for the Taylor Electric Lock AT3558. The manufacturer was looking for a major distributor in the UK who they can also work with to develop additional products to expand the range. The Taylor Lock has been available for a number of years, but has lacked marketing and support, which is why Securefast was chosen because of our strong connections and customer support that we offer. The innovative Taylor Lock design provides Automatic Deadlocking and offers minimal resistance to door closing with Electrical Deadlock release. The bolt can be released either by a lever handle on the inside to use as a Night Latch or Escape Lock or by a cylinder key or turn. The lock case is non-handed, has a 58mm backset and uses a 25mm wide forend. The lock case uses an operating voltage of 12 or 24v dc with a maximum current of 350mA and supplied as fail-locked, but easily changeable to a fail-safe mode. The lock meets the modern needs and demands of a harsh environment, high volume traffic, perimeter protection, security, access control and building management. It is also well suited to gates as well as doors, due to many of the components being manufactured from Stainless Steel, including the case and forend. Securefast Tate Colson Exhibit at Firex 2011 - Securefast Tate Colson exhibited at the Firex exhibition, NEC Birmingham 16th - 19th May 2011 and displayed their new cost effective Facial Recognition System for automatically identifying or verifying a person from a digital image, with the additional security of fingerprint recognition. The biometric reader raised a lot of interest due to the compact appearance, cost effective price and ease of programming. Also shown on the stand were the Fike and GE Fire Two-Wire Conventional Fire Systems, both leading brands available from Tate Colson. Displayed on the stand were a selection of the Securefast Panic and Emergency Exit Hardware, both traditional and touch bar styles, both fire tested and certified to the latest European Standards. The stylish touch bar was worth displaying, as passing visitors observed the range, stopped and asked about the options available and requested information. The traditional range was also displayed on the Fireco stand as they are now launching the range and supporting it with a new catalogue. Securefast Tate Colson supported the Fike Village in Hall 3, as we are a major supplier in the UK of Fike fire products. The Fike Village was a brand new feature developed to provide a relaxed and informal ‘village’ for customers to meet and to entertain key specifiers and end users. The exhibition was well attended and Securefast Tate Colson benefited from promoting their fire range products. New potential and existing customers visited the Securefast stand and new products were found at the exhibition which could be added to our portfolio, all under one roof, which made the exhibition worth supporting.

Securefast Exhibit at DHF Conference - Securefast plc supported the DHF (Doors and Hardware Federation) Conference at Telford International Centre on 30th September 2010. The conference was well attended by representatives of manufacturers, installers and service companies within the DHF. Securefast exhibited a selection of their products including access control, panic hardware and their new lock range, which was of great interest to many of its members. With seventeen companies exhibiting, abroad spectrum of products were on display, and more importantly, it was an ideal environment for suppliers and customers to share ideas and information. Security Door Chain to the rescue - In an emergency situation the unique Security Door Chain with External Release provides the perfect solution when the need arises to gain immediate access to a property. Disengaging the chain is achieved by means of a key release via an externally fitted standard rim cylinder. In normal use the stylish and easy to install Security Door Chain operates like any conventional security door chain. Once fitted to the inside of the door the unit features a simple to use push button mechanism, which either secures or disengages the strong 100mm steel chain. The internal units locking mechanism is linked through the door to a standard external rim cylinder. When standing outside the door, a simple rotation of the key in the rim cylinder will release the internal door chain and allow access. Support for Aspray24 Charity Quiz Night - In celebration of 30 years in business Aspray24 have decided this year to raise £30,000 for charity throughout 2013 with a number of events. The charities being supported are Macmillan Cancer Support, Help the Heroes and the Association of Air Ambulances. On Saturday 11th May 2013 Securefast entered a team in the Charity Quiz Night held at Goodyear Pavilion Club, which included Kevin Farrell, the Purchasing Manager, Gary Whitehouse, the Midland Sales Agent and Kevin O’Reilly, the Operations Director. The event was well supported with over twenty teams competing for the top prize. The Securefast team started the evening reasonably well and gained strength as the event went on to finish second. The evening raised over £900 towards the £30,000 target for the year.
